| EAST FIFE 1 COWDENBEATH O
A match that East Fife had to win to keep themselves in the
promotion race and through hard work they did just that.
Joe Mcbride(an ex Hibernian player)scored the only goal of
the game with a real peach which curved round the goalie and
slipped right into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Although Dumbarton are probably favourites to win promotion
I think that East Fife will play a major part in deciding this
championship.
IMHO it's about time Gavin Murray dropped his strikers and tried
some fresh blood.I don't think that Sludden has scored in his last
nine games. This manager is not helping the club in any way.If he
buys a player then that player seems to get a game even though he
plays badly.I can't remember who Mccracken was bought from but this
guy is one hell of a cart horse. He looks really unfit...

| Andrew,
Big Dooooogie McCracken was purchased from Dumbarton in a swop deal
which saw Jim Cowell move to Boghead. Both are ex Ayr United and were
members of the championship winning side of 1987-88 (as was Judas
Sludden). All three were cult heroes at Somerset and scored some
tremendous goals in their time. It's sad to hear the big man is not
performing but he has not yet recovered from a broken leg sustained at
Montrose in the B&Q Cup last year. He was always regarded as a utility
player with Ayr and played in defence , midfield or attack. How is
Sludden playing, is he still as slow as a week in the jail ?

Some pre-season results..
Fife 0 Middlesburgh (sp) 1
East Fife had most of the play but lost the single goal. The English
first division team did not look very good and unless they can improve
drastically they will not get back to the top flight in England.
Fife 0 Dunfermline 1 Fife cup
Another good performance by Fife and the result must have left the
Dunfermline players embarrassed. They were cr^p. Only missed chances
and good goalkeeping kept them in the game.
Division 2 away to Berwick.
Berwick Rangers 0 East Fife 1
A goal by new signing John riley was the difference in this game. John
has been signed on a 3 month contract and will have to improve his
fitness if he wants anything more. However his goal was well taken(
he went round the Keeper and hammered the ball into the corner of the
net from a tight angle. Previously Berwick had hit the post with new
keeper Ewen Wilson ( a pre season signing from the mighty Strathmiglo
United ) left stranded in no mans land.
Joe McBride was subbed in 11 minutes when he damaged a hamstring and
Paul Taylor stepped in. With Willie Burns out thru injury Gilbert Allan
played from the start and must have impressed the manager, especially
in the second 45 when he picked up everything thrown his way.
With 15 minutes left Totten brought of Davie Elliot and brought Benny
Andrew on to man mark the Rangers winger who was beginning to cause
some problems attacking the Fife defence.
Rumour has it that Totten is playing Davie Elliot and Joe McBride to
see if any other teams will come in ant take them away..possibly in a
swap deal.
Some good banter between the Scots and English fans here....Lucky it
wasn't a big crowd or there could have been a wee bit bother !

I almost forgot to enter last weeks score..
East Fife 3 Stenhousmuir 0
Aitken og
Irvine
Scott
The game was totally dominated by an on song East Fife team who were
led superbly by new signing Alan Irvine. This guy will stroll thru
the 2nd division and lead the team to promotion...
Irvine played behind the front two of Reilly and Scott and had several
fine efforts on goal. He almost surprised the Muir keeper with a
lob from almost 30 yards. His goal ( the 2nd ) was a long range effort
placed in the corner. Front man John Reilly was clean thru with only
the keeper to beat but missed every chance. Scott had a no bad game
and attempted to claim the first foal because he hit the ball before it
came off the keeper and onto the defender into the net. He didn't get
it !
With 2-3 regulars out the manager is in no hurry to bring them back
with performances like this. It should have been 6 or 7 nothing.
Fife keeper Wilson had another solid game. There seems no way back for
Charles.
Bring on Cowden next week .

Cowdenbeath 1 East Fife 2
Somebody Scott,Rielly
A deserved victory for East Fife in an uninspiring game. The goals
which came in each half were no more then deserved. Scotts first goal
was a good shot into the net with a hint of offside.Certainly the
Cowden fans were not pleased. Cowden equalised when the Fife defence
became very slack and allowed their player thru on Wilson. He couldn't
really miss. The winner from wee John was a near post header after some
terrific Fife wing play. Just as well he scored...he didn't do anything
else !
Six points from six and top of the table.
Cowden have probably the worst home support I have seen in a long time.
The East Fife fans outnumbering them 3-1.
Alan Irvine who was so inspirational last week has now been signed on
a two year contract. Dave Elliot has been freed.

Andy - in case you weren't there, here's the black and white view....
Queen's Park 4 v 2 East Fife
Queen's (who've been playing well but not scoring) finally discovered
where the opposition goal is, and were 1 up after only 2 minutes, when
Brian McPhee took the ball off a shaky looking East Fife 'keeper,
and calmly slotted the ball home for his first goal for the club.
5 minutes later, McPhee had scored his second, and it was looking like
a rout was possible........
......but we should have known better!
Queen's went 3 up midway through the second half, and then decided the
game was over. Bad mistake! East Fife started to play, and brought
it back to 3-2 with a couple of very soft goals, before Andy Brodie
scored to make it 4-2 to Queen's.
(BTW, This gives Andy Brodie something to tell his grandchildren.
He came on as a substitute making his debut at Hampden Park, and
scored with his first touch of the ball!).
On this showing, East Fife are destined for the basement league next
season.
David.

thanks for the report....
Totten is gonna have to do something pretty soon !
During the first 3 games Fife looked good. Last 3 games they have
looked very bad. However,I still think that they can be up there
at the end of the season.
The reserves walloped Aloa 3-0 on Monday night with some good forward
play from both John Reilly and Benny Andrew. Andrew scored all 3
goals during a fine display. Reilly laid on some fine passes and
generally helped and encouraged the youngster.I may not be Reillys
greatest fan but I will give him credit where its due.He seems
more prepared to help the youngsters up front compared to Scottie,
who sees the challenge as a threat to him and sometimes does naff
all to help any team members during reserve games.
It was beginning to look quite good too...1500 at the last home
game..not bad. Dont think we will see that next week.
Still not to worry.

East Fife 0 East Stirling 1
Its a sad day when this sh^$* can get an away victory against East
Fife. The goal apart, this team were bad..very bad. Doesn't say much
about Fife.
Fife should have scored a good few goals with Andrew shooting just wide
with a powerful shot mid way thru the first .Another effort from
Andrew came back off the crossbar with the keeper helpless. The other
front man today was John Rielly...after me thinking that he could be no
too bad..he let me down. Two sitters missed and surely Totten cant stand
much more. His first miss was a header put just wide with the keeper
nowhere after attempting to gather the ball but losing out to Andrew.
He should have buried it.Scottie came on midway thru the second but
(although he tried) didn't change anything. Big Alan Irvine ,after
making a good start to his Fife career was extremly dissapointing and
was deservedly subbed. For a big man he didn't win much in the air
during that game.
Some fans were disgraceful..well they shouldn't really be called fans
because all they do is slag everyone...maybe they would help if they
tried to encourage the players....maybe they would do better themselves
8*).....not.
They are gonna have to start winning soon or they will drop out of
contention. Hopefully they can start next week by beating Forfar.
See ya.

Fife 2 Cowden 0
Ravaged by injuries the mighty Fife still dumped poor cowden in this
tense Fife derby 8^)
All two Cowden supporters must have wished they'd stayed at home.
An og from some long haired donkey set up the fife and the lead was
doubled when Davie Beaton volleyed a korker from the corner of the box
into the net with only eight minutes to go.
After a very poor run recently the two points are very welcome. Next
game is away to Alloa followed by a hard battle with Stranrar. It will
be difficult with only a shell of a team available, Scott is out with
a leg injury,Hilldersly ( hamstring),Allan (cut head),Andrew (knee op.)
Thing is they no longer have the services of Physio Bob Pender who has
been sacked.
He preferred to help out at Dundee Untd when the boys were being
humiliated at Berwick in the cup. They would have lost his services soon
anyway as it appears he is of to Lanzarote to set up shop.Nice work if
you can get it !.
Looks like theres going to be a wee clearout of staff soon,if Totten
can get some fresg players. I dont know how he will manage this with
no cash.
The team must start winning more games to assure 3rd division football
next season ( maybe even 2nd div.). No one wants to be part of the
dreaded 4th division. Imagine travelling up to Inverness or Dingwall.
Have to leave the week before 8^)))

Albion Rovers 1 East Fife 1
Mcbride
A game of two halves ...one either side of the whistle. The conditions
were terrible. Howling wind and bad underfoot conditions tended to
level the teams out. Even with 5 regular first team players out,Fife
still should have gained two points.
The Daily Record stated that we were at full strength....crap. I wish
the papers would get their facts right ...if its not a West of Scotland
team or a premier league team the who cares...
To the game..
Managerless Albion will remain fixed at the foot until the seasons end.
East Fife will finish in the top six. Although some good football was
played we only had one clear cut chance in the first period,Andrew
shrugged of two challenges and swept the ball goalwards. If it wasn't
for the gale blowing it might have went in,instead it slowed up and
ended up bending back towards the stranded defence.
In the second half Albion looked threatening and scored the opener
with a well worked goal leaving Charles helpless as the atacker side
footed past him into the keepers left hand corner.
The equalizer came when Joe left the defence ..went wide and slotted
home from about fifteen yards. This still didn't silence his critics.
He had a nightmare. However, the Fife fans ( a few of them ) didn't help
the team with their constant barracking of some players.

Well..A new season beckons..
Fife depart on a pre-season tour of Durham tomorrow. Good luck. A good
tour down there set them up for 4 straight victories last season.
They may be without Mr.Totten who will probably leave today to take
over at Killie.
Who will replace him ? Mmm
John Riely,Jim Leishman,Tommy Gemmel,Alan Sneddon,Me,Kenny Thomson..
a few names touted.
Fife have made the massive signing...Paul Hunter from the Blue Brazil.
He didn't have a good season last season. He is overweight and will have
to train pretty damn hard to get his fitness level up to scratch.
Next week sees games against Glasgow Rangers ( Monday ) and Hibernian
on Wednesday. We do not have an early European game this season.
Out of the many contract rebels, only Dougie Hope has still to sign.
Davie Beaton signed a two year contract.Andrew and Allan both signed on
for 3 years. Graham Bell signed on after Fife paid for an American
holiday,Gillie and Benny got 2 grand and Beaton got a house in
Lumphinans 8@). Hope got nowt and Scotty got a pint of Vodka.
Rumour has it that we tried to sign Laudrop from Rangers ( to cash in
on massive TV deals ) but he couldn't understand the Fife accent.
I think he was impressed with the signing on fee of a new raliegh
bike,a fish supper on match days and Scotties pint of Vodka.
Anyway...with an obvious lack of money,no manager, now new players
(of note) the club is facing some tough times ahead.
Come on yoooo Fife..
