Yesterday Portugal won the game against Finland. Final score was 1 for
Portugal and 0 for Finland. This was the first game for the qualifying
with the new trainer Carlos Queiroz. The team production was not the
best, but it seems some good work is being done to improve things. I
personally believe that Queiroz will make this team as sucessful as he
did with other younger teams he has coached in the last years
(Worldchampions and European Champions). Futre was at his best and the
    qualifying is still possible.

(Bergkamp scored the equalizer in the last minute).

Portugal and Holland are dead even. They each have 2 games left, with
the BIG one against each other in Holland. They also each play Greece.

last night Holland played Portugal at home (Rotterdam) and won 1-0 by a goal
from Barcelona player Witschge. Holland are now virtual in Sweden only needing
a point against the Greece in December and they could even loose 'cause the
goal diff is much better.

Sweden here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, don't be too sure. A win for Greece against Portugal means a
direct group-final, and if that one ends up in a draw, it depends on
how many goals Greece manage to score against Malta. It can be a very
nervous chrismas time for all you dutch supporters...

Holland only needs a draw against Greece and that would set us up for
Sweden, so let's say it's 90% sure that we go!

I saw parts of the game last night as it was broadcasted life on RTL-4,
the Greece looked very poor and Portugal dominated the game, watching
the game you would figure that Portugal was the side needing the points
to qualify and not Greece.

"cause we have only one game to play and the Greece have two, if they beat us
they need to win the last match by large numbers and something simulair
happened in the early 80's, when Spain got something of a 13-0 win and
qualified on goal-difference, so we need the point.

You're right, I didn't think about that, just like Dutch coach Rijvers
when Spain were playing Malta and he was playing cards (13 -1)
29.17Yes, a draw will doGOTA1::APPELQVISTI tunneled Hysn!!!Thu Nov 21 1991 17:2925

Let's just for fun (?) say that greece will do the impossible and beat
Holland by 4-0. The standings will be

    Holland	8 5 1 2	15 - 6 11
    Greece	7 4 1 2 14 - 6 9

A 1-0 win for Greece against Malta and they are threw (4-0 home vs. 2-0
    in Holland).

    A win for Greece by an odd goal (f.ex. 1-0) and it looks like this;

    Holland	8 5 1 2 15 - 3 11
    Greece 7 4 1 2 11 - 6 9

Greece then needs to beat Malta by a margin of 8 goals. As said,
    remember Spain-Malta...

Don't worry, we wan't you here in Sweden next summer!!! To see such
good players like Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkards and Koeman in the same
team, is top-football to me. So just put in that little extra effort on
4 December, and you all can buy your chrismas present in peace and
quiet, and put that Dutch-Swedish parleur on your wishinglist.

29.23UTROP1::JANSENDr. MartensThu Dec 05 1991 09:2514
Rob,

When I came home at six the second half just started, we were already leading
1-0 by a goal from Dennis Bergkamp in 40th minute. Holland controlled the game
but Greece had a few small changes, but with only few minutes to go a Dutch
attack started at the own goal, five Dutch players touched the ball and it
was in the Greece net, a falling header by Danny Blind. I later saw the first
half and I must admit it looked very shaky, specailly the defence.

Ruud Gullit didn't play, he was on the pitch during the warming up but the
ankle injury started playing up again and he decided not to play leaving
Rinus Michels very p*ssed.

29.24Tough groupBONNET::ZIJLThe one who always loses his SODEXHO cardSat Jan 18 1992 09:236
Holland meet Germany, former USSR (CIS) and Scotland in Sweden. Rather
a tough group, but there is an advantage. If we make it to the semi
finals, and with such a side as ours this is possible, we won't meet
    Germany there.
