111.0. "London site Abbey Wood" by WOTVAX::BRACEY (There ain't no sanity clause) Thu May 15 1997 11:41
We have just spent the May holiday on the CC's London site at Abbey
Wood. It's a good site and up to CC standards there seemed to be a
uniformed security guard there most of the time (possibly 24 hrs but I
didn't ask him). I think the site is owned by the council but is
managed by the CC.
Abby Wood is inside the M25 about 10 miles from J2 (I think the road is
the A2). It's five mins walk from the local train stn and there are lots
of eating houses also within walking distance. We bought weekender rail
tickets for 5.60 each, these can be used on the trains the tube & I
think the buses. Not having to drive was a real bonus & saved a fortune
on petrol & carpark fees.
Greenwich is 10 mins away by train and and it's well worth a visit to the
Royal Observatory the Maritime Museum & the Royal house. Getting back on
the same train takes you into Charring Cross you can then tube it to
anywhere in London using your trusty weekender card.
Overall, a good site well positioned for London very relaxing not
having to drive.
In july we're towing to Paris I wonder if it will be as easy?
