699.0. "Does TeamLinks produce 'proper Macbinary files'?" by GIDDAY::BACOT () Mon Jun 02 1997 03:43

    Hello again,

A customer has requested that we comment on the following:

During correspondence with Innosoft an engineer at Innosoft has stated that
TeamLinks does not produce "proper Macbinary files".

    Is this statement correct?

    Regards,

    Angela

Some context would be helpful - is there a problem? I don't know of any
problem with the MacBinary files produced by TeamLinks.

I suspect this is in relation to some problems with pmdf.

Please get a description of the problem the customer is experiencing - the
more detail, the better. I checked with a former engineer - he was also not
aware of MacBinary problems with current versions of TeamLinks. The name of
a contact at Innosoft would also be helpful. (Who told the customer that
there's a problem with TeamLinks?)

I've asked the customer for additional information on the MacBinary
    problems.

This is a result of an 'oh by the way' in correspondence with the
customer on a different issue, as in 'oh by the way, Innosoft claims
that TeamLinks does not produce proper Macbinary files. Any comment on
    this?'

    Regards,

Apparently they are not experiencing any problems, they are trying to
work out how to get PMDF to generate Macbinary files and their contact
at Innosoft responded to his queries by saying that the MacBinary
material Teamlinks produces violates the MacBinary specifications in
several ways -- the byte of the finder info flags are swapped,
it neither clears checksum fields (an indicator that checksumming isn't
being one) nor calculates the checksum properly, it occasionally omits
various field values that it should fill in, and so on.

After receiving this information from Innosoft the customer sent mail
to me asking for a comment on the statement that TeamLins does not
    produce proper Macbinary files.

    Regards,
