344.0. "Paradox V7 and Windows 95 OSR2/FAT32" by MARVIN::SHAND (Mike Shand) Wed Apr 23 1997 07:48

I don't know if there are still any paradox users out there, but I just
fell foul of a nasty problem which might be of interest.

I have a new computer running Win95 OSR2 with FAT32 file system.

I discovered that paradox was complaining about the inability to open
certain files (notably the CHANGED table from a CHANGETO query, which is
written to ":PRIV:".

I solved the problem by redefining :PRIV: from its default of

Program files/Borland/.../.../...

to something lower down in the tree.

However I felt pretty nervous about this "fix". What else was going wrong?

I've found the problem is due to FAT32. Corel have a new version of the
database engine available from their FTP site, which supposedly fixes this
problem. I'll download it and try it out.

But for any of you who may be suffereing inexpicable file related problems and
are running FAT32, you may find this interesting. Pretty scarey stuff.
