235.0. "Java and CORBA in Netscape's latest Web Server" by HOUBA::MEHERS (Damian, http://bigbird.geo.dec.com/) Tue Jun 03 1997 07:58
From index.html in http://bigbird.geo.dec.com/wwwadi/awadicorba.zip
I have been delivering a course on Web Enabling Applications (Advanced
WWW Application Development and Integration) for almost a year now.
As you can imagine, the field changes very fast, and I am constantly
working to keep the course material up to date. As part of this update
process, I am adding a module on Netscape's Web Server CORBA integration,
specifically covering the use of LiveConnect to allow the access to CORBA
objects from their Server-side Javascript implementation (LiveWire). This
is (IMHO) a very exciting development, since it offers the CORBA
equivalent to Microsoft's Active Server Pages COM integration.
Included here is the experimental Lab from this course. It uses the
Netscape Enterprise Server 3.0 Beta, which you can currently download
from http://home.netscape.com/comprod/mirror/server_download.html
Please remember that it is a first draft of the lab, and it is provided
here purely to help those struggling to get started with CORBA and
Netscape's Web Servers.
Remember that this Lab is normally delivered as part of the course, and
is accompanied by a presentation. By the time the students get to this
lab, they have already covered CGI, LiveWire, ISAPI, NSAPI and more.
The lab can be downloaded from
http://bigbird.geo.dec.com/wwwadi/awadicorba.zip
Cheers,
/Damian
