REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Oracle
Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) and BEA Systems Inc. are collaborating to ready NT for
the enterprise through cooperative work on their marketshare-leading, open
database and middleware products.
Oracle is now supporting the XA interface on Windows NT. XA is the Open
Group's standard interface for transaction processing (TP) monitors, such
as BEA TUXEDO, and resource managers such as Oracle, to allow customers to
more easily and effectively build distributed computing applications.
Oracle(R) Universal Server is now certified to run with BEA TUXEDO, the
industry's open TP monitor marketshare leader, for Windows NT. With BEA's
delivery of the BEA TUXEDO NT Edition, and its use of Oracle in its testing
suites, Oracle-based solutions incorporating robust transaction management
through XA can be deployed today in the Windows NT environment. This also
offers a robust way to bring NT into a heterogeneous environment,
supporting mission-critical applications which require guaranteed
transactional integrity and guaranteed message delivery across multiple
platforms and databases.
"Oracle is pleased to work with BEA on its NT version of BEA TUXEDO 6.3,"
commented Steve Bower, vice president of NT Product Development at Oracle
Corp. "Oracle's commitment to open standards in the form of our strong
support of XA has been an enabler of enterprise-class solutions on a
variety of operating systems and environments."
Because Oracle and BEA TUXEDO can communicate through XA, any transactions
are robustly and reliably coordinated and errors, faults and exceptions are
rolled back in a consistent and reliable manner through all of the
technology components participating in the transaction.
"As a result of these joint efforts, BEA and Oracle are further enabling NT
to become a player in the enterprise, interoperating with UNIX, mainframe
and other proprietary systems and no longer functioning as an NT-only
solution," comments Jeri Edwards, vice president of strategy and product
planning for BEA. "In addition, BEA has adopted Oracle as the database we
use in our test suites, testing BEA TUXEDO installation and run-time
activities in conjunction with Oracle(R) Universal Server."
