149.0. "Tuxedo on OVMS: to be XA or not..." by SAWA::STEFANOWICZ (Artur Stefanowicz, DB & TP Grp) Tue Apr 22 1997 10:56
Based on earlier deal, BEA will deliver Tuxedo on OpenVMS
at about summertime this year (as they say...)
One of important issues there is the possibility to use
VMS-based RM's like RMS & Oracle Rdb in a transactional manner.
This means using DECdtm, our transaction manager on OpenVMS.
Personaly, I doubt BEA will replace TMS in favour of DECdtm
simply because of technical problems. Then we will face situation
where we have Tuxedo on OpenVMS running in its normal XA-based
way.
I'm not sure here, but some time ago I was told Oracle does not
support XA on OpenVMS, what seems practical as at that time there
was no XA TM on OpenVMS (not counting DECdtm, as its XA-compliance
was never tested in production).
What follows is short interactions on that subject from DECdtm Notes:
Artur.

Hi,
So is TUXEDO going to talk (sit on top of?) DECdtm? or is everyone's
life going to become a nightmare? (You know those one or two programs
that currently use some combination of Rdb, DBMS, RMS, ACMS & DECdtm)
What is the migration path?
Regards Richard Maher.

I have no knowledge whatever about future plans, but if I were a betting man,
I'd probably put my money on the latter...
