PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- Hewlett-Packard
Company today announced that it has signed a worldwide reseller agreement
with BEA Systems, Inc., as its premier supplier of software infrastructure
for mission-critical solutions consisting of BEA TUXEDO, BEA Jolt and BEA
Connect. In addition, the companies jointly announced integration of HP's
security products with BEA's middleware suite, and certification and
testing with HP's high-availability products to give customers a reliable
infrastructure for building mission-critical applications in distributed
computing environments.
Under the terms of the agreement, HP's Professional Services Organization
will resell the BEA products and services to HP's enterprise customers. In
addition, HP's and BEA's professional services organizations intend to work
together to deliver consulting, training and integration services on BEA's
products. The agreement underscores the successful implementations of BEA
TUXEDO on HP platforms to date and strengthens HP's middleware strategy.
"This reseller agreement makes HP an active participant in offering
customers BEA's widely installed open transaction-management middleware --
a product that operates consistently across different computing platforms,"
said Ed Acly, director of middleware research for International Data
Corporation, a Framingham, Mass.-based market-research firm. "In turn, this
consistency simplifies and improves the customer's ability to deal with the
increasingly heterogeneous growth of technology used to build a company's
most important applications."
BEA's core product, BEA TUXEDO, supplies the underlying transaction
control, messaging, application management and global systems
administration needed to develop and deploy scaleable, multitier
distributed applications. According to the most recent survey of the
Standish Group, a Dennis, Mass.-based market-research firm, BEA TUXEDO has
the largest market share in the open transaction-processing monitor market.
BEA Jolt brings mission-critical applications based upon BEA TUXEDO to
Intranet and Internet environments.
"This reseller agreement enables HP to offer BEA's middleware solution as
its premier supplier to customers in highly transaction-oriented
environments, such as the telecommunications and financial-services
markets," said Carol G. Mills, general manager of HP's General Systems
Division. "We see the combination of BEA TUXEDO and BEA Jolt as a key
element of our electronic-commerce solution for customers who are building
and deploying mission-critical Internet applications."
"HP is enabling more mission-critical applications to be run on open
systems than ever before," said Bill Coleman, chairman and chief executive
officer of BEA. "Our cooperation in product development, delivery and
professional services provides customers a strong team to assist them with
enterprise applications, including legacy integration, especially those
taking advantage of electronic-commerce, Intranet and Internet
technologies."
HP and BEA have integrated and tested several of their product offerings
successfully. Using BEA TUXEDO's transactional and messaging capabilities
with the high-availability features of HP MC/ServiceGuard and the high
levels of security provided by HP Praesidium allows customers to run
enterprise applications that are highly secure, able to handle stringent
performance and scalability requirements, and require extreme levels of
data and transaction integrity.
Through joint development efforts, HP and BEA have integrated BEA TUXEDO
and HP Praesidium/Authorization Server, part of the HP Praesidium
end-to-end centrally managed enterprise and Internet security framework.
The integration between HP Praesidium and BEA TUXEDO is being offered by
HP's Professional Services Organization as part of this agreement.
CRI, the French Bank Clearing System, has purchased and installed BEA
TUXEDO and HP Praesidium, which have been integrated to utilize smart
cards, encryption and HP Praesidium/Authorization Server.
In addition, HP and BEA have tested and certified MC/ServiceGuard, HP's
leading clustering solution of high-availability systems, with BEA TUXEDO
in a variety of real-world configurations. Using these products together
provides customers with an application infrastructure that features
transactional integrity, and around-the-clock availability for applications
that need to be running at all times. The combination of BEA TUXEDO and
MC/ServiceGuard creates an efficient, highly available OLTP environment
that is also easy to manage.
Product integration between BEA TUXEDO and HP Praesidium or MC/ServiceGuard
is currently available through the professional-services organizations of
both companies. Pricing varies based on installation size and
implementation time.
