112.0. "Is there anybody out there?" by VYGER::DUFFYG () Fri Feb 21 1997 01:35

Thought I'd start this topic just to get you 'boarders talking again!
We ain't getting much of a season here in Scotland due to a severe lack
of snow (it helps). To make things worse everyone I know seems to be
going away to France,Italy,Andorra etc etc ,but I'm in the middle of
purchasing a house so there's no exspensive winter holiday for me!
We have however had some pretty severe weather over the last week
but I'm not sure if the temperatures have been low enough to improve
the conditions up north, I suppose I'll just have to keep my fingers
crossed and maybe a large dump of fluffy white stuff will come our way!

Let it snow, let it snow,LET IT SNOW!!!

                                                          Gavin.

112.1HERE in Colorado....SSDEVO::TOWNEFri Feb 21 1997 09:5919

Yes, there are life-forms moving in snow (where you can find it..). We
are getting a dusting of snow right now in Colorado Springs. Most of
the resorts in Colorado are reporting at least 4 inches from last
    night.

My girlfriend is moving to Ipswich, GB in June. She brought me back a
couple of pictures of dry-slopes. Riding on 'brushes' doesn't look
like a particularly good thing to do. I've GOT to get my passport....
I'll probably come over for a bit of a cycling tour rather than
snowboarding..... I've got some family to look up in Ninfield (east of
Brighton...) and I really want to see Stonehenge.

I'll put the board on the truck and head for the mountains; 130 miles
    one-way.....

    Henry

Weather in Boston is around ~60. You can guess we don't have snow in Mass.
Up north in NH and Vermont its all right. They got hit with 3 feet in the
last two weeks.

The conditions in the French Alps are pretty good at the moment. The
snow @the end of last year has held out, and there's been regular
snowfall since. More is forecast tonight I believe, which could be useful
as the temperature was 15C on Saturday in Geneva.

This year I've been to Val d'Isere, Megeve, Grand Bornand, Courmayeur,
Chamonix and Verbier. There are very few slopes closed, with the only
problem being avalanche warnings (2 people killed in CH last w/e),
and the French holidays. The good conditions have led to
big lift queues (esp. Sunday) and major traffic jams - 20kms @V.d'I on
    Saturday!

112.4Scotland is crap for snow ! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!VYGER::DUFFYGFri Feb 28 1997 14:4321

Hey Mark I thought you'd gone AWOL on us! Still stationed in Brussels
    then?
I see you've been getting plenty of boardin' in.Did you change your
    'guch' for something else?
I went up to Aviemore again at New Year and it was a disaster! Our
caravans pipes froze and we had no running water and to add to the
misery we all came home after just four days with the flu! So I've only
had three days on snow this season and the conditions were s**t!
I think I'll go up to Aviemore next weekend even though the
conditions are'nt very good(It's better than nothing I suppose.)

                             Another moan from,

                                               GAV.

112.5Back to Scotlands dwarf moutains(or hills?)VYGER::ULIVIAMon Mar 03 1997 10:4216

    YEAH !!
Just back from our week in Andorra ( Pas De La Casa ). It hadn't
snowed for a fortnight when we got there and didn't snow while we were
there, but there was still full cover of the whole mountain although
I think that was due to the snow cannons cos the snow on the surouding
mountains was dissapearing fast.It also meant we went all that way and
got no powder !typical. Even still it was great boarding, being able to
spend fifteen minutes going downhill nonstop and being able to
spend the whole day boarding without going down the same run twice was
excellent, certainly not what we are used to in Scotland!
Also we got our first taste of the halpipe ,phew ,that is well hard
    work ,good fun though.

                                              Alex.

    GAV.

Yep. Still in Brussels:-( Must get a job in Switzerland!

I bought a Lib Tech board @Xmas in the US. The price was just too good
to pass up. It's certainly different to the Iguchi, but I haven't
really had the chance to compare. I'm off to Tignes next week, so that
    should give me ample opportunity.

    Salut,
    /Mark.

Ok Ok !!! So I'm answering my own notes again, it seems as though half
of the noters in here can't find their way to a keyboard.

I was talking to a girl who has won one of the snowboards from a
ring-pull off a sprite can. I told her that if she didn't want it, I
could maybe sell it for her.

Must be worth oooooooooooh mmmmmmmmmm let me see now..........

I went to Saas Fee last w/e, but the weather was bad and the 'summer
ski' area not open yet(!?) If anyone has a reasonable summer session
in Europe, please post info. here.

    Roll on '98.

    Cheers,
    /Mark.
