686.0. "OVMS V6.2 and V7.1 support?" by CSC32::J_HENSON (Don't get even, get ahead!) Tue May 06 1997 13:14

a customer has asked what version(s) is supported on OpenVMS V6.2
and OpenVMS V7.1 (VAX and Alpha). The latest information we have at
the CSC only shows OpenVMS support through V6.2.

Thanks,

Jerry

One of my customers is asking too. They are using V2.1A in the
traditional timesharing environment (COBOL/FORMS/Rdb, no ACMS) and
would like to upgrade to VMS V7.1 (Alpha). There was a mention from
the support center that a future release of of ACMS would be certified
to work with Application Generator V2.1A and VMS V7.1. Could this be
in the works? And does this imply that the Application Generator will
    tolerate VMS V7.1?

My customer is also asking about using Rdb V7.0 with this product.
They have installed the multiversion product, so they have more
flexibility when it comes to Oracle Rdb.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

Sorry for delay but One of our guys is putting together a 7.1 system. I
would hope to hear update later..If not We will put a note in here
    later to-day with the story

We do see one problem if you try to INSTALL Decadmire 2.1a on a system
that ONLY has Oracle RDB 7.0. We have included a couple of demo
databases with the kit that were origonally built with Oracle Rdb
4.2!!! would you belive. Normally the intsall would convert them to
the version of RDB you have on your system...but seemingly the 7.0 RMU
command only works on converting database of 5.1 of greater.

This is a simple enough fix for us..ie we will convert the demos
databases to 5.1 and re package them

    more later

Thanks for the update. Can I consider this as Digital's official
position and tell this to a customer? If not, what should I
tell customers regarding OpenVMS V7.1 support?

Thanks,

Yes..You can take that is offical from us.

You should also check that they have SUPPORTED versions of
the underlying products. ie if they are using Acms then 4.2 is the
first supported version of ACMS on 4.2.
