Well I have been beavering away with making Printer service manuals,
IPB's etc available in "pdf" format (ie screen readable via the Adobe
    Acrobat viewer).

    Go to:
    		http://vivian.hhl.dec.com/wow/printers/home.html

    Feedback welcome.
    regards,
    Ian.

493.3other sources of Pocket Service GuidesDEBUG::GALLOFast/Good/Cheap... Pick 2!Thu Feb 27 1997 15:3322
A few other great sources for Pocket Service Guides:

    1) The MDS CD-ROM issued quarterly to the MCS WOW FSE's contains LOT's
of Pocket Service information. (MDS is Media and Documentation
Services, NOT Multivendor Desktop Services in this case!)

    2) Open your web browser of choice, and paste in this URL:
    		altavista.pa.dec.com
which is Digital's INTERNAL AltaVista search engine.
       Enter the query like this:
    		+pocket +service +guide
and you will see about 400 articles containing Pocket Service Guides
that you can click on and download to your PC.

    3) Open the MCS Learning Utility at URL:
    		http://mcsww8.rto.dec.com/mcsl/
       Click on the Searching button.
Go to the Type free text box and type the words:
    		pocket service guide
You will see a list of over 300 Pocket Service Guides available.

    Hope this helps! Paul

    re .1
A truly great page with "alot" of "good" documentation.

All I have to say is "it was nice having some available disk space"
    on my laptop.

    Thanks Michael,

Yes the pdf files do use disk space, but nowhere near as much as the
associated Postscript file, eg. the LN09 Service Guide reduced from
    150MB down to about 4MB !

I have now added the size of the files to the webpage to give you
advance indication of the space required.

    regards,
    Ian.

Use Adobe's Acrobat Distiller product!! It should pay for itself in
saved disk space within a few days!! ;-)
