491.0. "Mobile Media Dock can't handle E-CDs" by NWD002::LEARNEDDE () Tue Feb 04 1997 13:37
The mobile media dock on the new laptops may have a deficieny...
I have this Compact Disc which is primarily audio, however, it is
called an "enhanced CD" in that, there is also some data on it
(multimedia, screensaver). On my machine at home (Starion W95) I can
play the audio and access the data, no problem. On every other machine
I've tried, it doesn't work! The CD player (audio) application
recognizes the disc as a data disc, but when you try to explore the
'data' CD, it just says the drive is not ready... Retry?
So, what I've learned is that the CDrom drive itself needs a particular
version of firmware so that it can sort out the audio information and
access the data. I believe the audio is Red Book and the data is Yellow
Book, or something like that. Anyway, is it possible to get firmware
updates for the CDrom drive so that I can access my "enhanced" CDs?
Thanks,
Dennis
