    G'day,
     We are about to plan our burn schedule..- oops sorry -  hazard reduction
    schedule for 1996. We have been asked to indicate the nature of the
    trees/bush/land that we will be working on. Since no-one is au fait
    with all the tree types - they willbe mostly gums and acacias), we
    thought we might put in something like:
    
    big trees
    small trees,
    bushy trees
    spikey trees
    scruffy bushes
    long tall grass
    dead trees
    and stuff of like ilk. But since to do so might appear disrespectful,
    we thought me might hide it behind some latin so it looks like tree
    names...
    
    Can anyone helpus out, please?

    Hi Derek,
    
    presumably you want Latin-like names for these pseudo trees. How about:
    
    Big trees	    -	Arborea Maxima
    Small trees     -	Arborea Minima
    Bushy trees     -	Arborea Floribundi
    Dead Trees      -	Arborea Moribundi
    Spikey Trees    - 	Arborea Thornibus
    Scruffy Trees   -	Arborea Tattibus
    Long Tall Grass -	Flora Talla  (covers all manner of taller plants)
    
    Or are you after something more horticultural and genuine Latin?

    Steve, that's cute and all, but at least we could offer to create names
    using valid Latin.  :-)  There there are words that come pretty close
    to what Derek is after.
    
    Big tree, trees	-	Arbor grandis, Arbores grandes
    Small tree, trees	-	Arbor exigua, Arbores exiguae
    Bushy tree, trees	-	Arbor fruticosa, Arbores fruticosae
    Dead tree, trees	-	Arbor mortua, Arbores mortuae
    Spikey tree, trees	- 	Arbor spinosa, Arbores spinosae
    Scruffy tree, trees	-	Arbor pannosa, Arbores pannosae
    Long Tall Grass	-	Gramen procerum, Gramina procera

    Hmpf.  One can have as much fun with real words, I'll have you know. 
    Anyone reading/hearing this stuff who knows a smattering of Latin will
    be all the more confounded if the words are apparently right and
    meaningful.
