| I coulda SWORN I saw it in here a couple years back. Tell ya what. I
bet it's elsewhere herein and I'll do a search "sorghum stenches" to
verify, and post the results...
I'm betting it was posted years ago -- not that a classic can't bear
repeating. I've loved it since I first saw it in about 1972ish, and
both my kids know it by heart. In fact we often greet one another with
"Evanescent <person-name>!! :-)".
More later...

| I rest my case... My search string was "sorghum stenches" and after
two hits I gave up...
Love it!!!

.6 reminded me that I do know an example in English. I don't know
its source, so I'll type in the whole thing (from a faded ditto

Re .7
Here's a version I copied without permission from a book by Espy.
It was written by Prof. Howard Chace, who definitely isn't
anonymous.

edition. I translated it as "have a pleasant walk".

Actually, there are quite a few differences. Beaucoup, even.
For instance,
"Whirrs are putty ladls gull goring wetter ladle basking?"
in my version is
"Wares zoo putty lade gull goring wizard ladle basking?"
and
"den disk ratchet amino"
is
"dinner corn turntable woof"
I'd be interested in seeing the original.

| I have the original at home somewhere. These linguistic gems appeared
first on the Post Scripts page (where Ted Key's Hazel cartoons also
appeared) in The Saturday Evening Post 35 years and more ago, and I
loved them - and still do.
The same author created the delightful Heinrich Schnibble's Wordenbooke
definitions. Offhand, I can remember only the one about felines:
cat: spittenscratcher
tomcat: spittenscratchenyowlenprowler
neighbor: spittenscratchenyowlenprowlerhater
nearest neighbor: spittenscratchenyowlenprowlerhatenbootengeflingen-
oathencurser
I'll try to find the original; if I do, I'll scan it in.

| Alas, enthusiasm outstripped accuracy in my memory. Ladle Rat Rotten
Hut wasn't coined by Dave Morrah of Schnibble's Deutscher Wordenbooke
fame. Which means that I don't have the original at home.
I do have a collection of the Morrah items, however, from which my
scanner and I offer this:
--------

I thought German script capitalised the nouns?
Or was this a scanning problem?

| Re .14
Although the Text was in a cheap Paperback and caused my Scanner to say
"huh?", it is capitalised in .13 as it was in the Book. It's Deutscher
Doubletalk, not German, and its Purpose is strictly humorous.
Americans would probably have Trouble and stumble over all that
Capitalisation anyway.

I suggest we dismiss this version as an obvious fraud, since
we all know she met up with the scarecrow first.
