938.0. "Perfik\" by MICKY::SIMPSON () Tue Dec 24 1991 02:44

There's a series that is shown on UK T.V. every now and then. It's
called "The Darling Buds of May". It has become abit of a cult show
for some reason. The bloke who plays the father of this family in the
show uses the word "Perfik" to describe any manor of things.
Consequently when this show is aired we get non stop "perfik" this and
"perfik" that, in all the newspapers etc etc.

It is a catch-phrase that really gives me the hump.

*All* the newspapers? Surely not. I get the impression
that certain UK tabloids are driven largely by the telly.
But the "quality" papers seem [relatively] immune from
that influence. Perhaps a change of newspaper is the
	answer.

No, I don't read the 'box; last time I looked, the chaff to wheat ratio
    was 'way too high.

Mr. Simpson's note would seem to indicate that this situation still
    holds true.

Yeah, soapbox is just a lot of yammering. At first it was interesting,
but after a while it's just boring. Like a bunch of dogs yapping at
    each other.

    I've been sussed again.

Is there not a place on this planet where I can't get hassle from the
likes of Cespit-o-bar and bleeding Kalikow?!?!?!?!?!

The rest of you are right about the Soapbox though - full of mindless
drivel and self-opinionated loudmouths. I find it so uncouth.
