915.0. "Who is Sam Donaldson?" by TKOVOA::MIZUNO (_"Garfield" is my middle name_) Tue Sep 24 1991 03:25

I don't know if this is a right place, but here it goes...

While I was reading a book, I came across with the following name
which I cannot find out who he is. Is this person a well-know figure
in the US? If so, in what way is he famous?

	extract from the book:

"We can be sure that the military is developing systems for mission
training. Special forces will walk the streets of their objective
before the battle. Future presidents will field hostile questions
from a graphic Sam Donaldson in rehersal before they face the real
        thing." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
                            ???

Thank in advance... Kiyoko Lucy Mizuno @Edu/Tokyo

Sam Donaldson is a news reporter for the American television network
ABC. He is especially known for his news coverage of former president
    Ronald Reagan.

Thank you for the reply. Now I understand the whole sentense.
Every time I come across with such terms, I feel envy for those
who share the same background with the auther of the book.

Sam, who serves as an anchorman primarily now, was part of the
White House Press corps for years and was known for his
tenacious (if not obnoxious) style of questioning. When he
felt he was on the scent he would not let go and could be
counted on to ask the sort of question no president wants
    	asked.

Sam Donaldson is a TV reporter, or at least is a reporter whom I have
seen on TV. Presumably he asks tough questions.
