848.0. "What's the name of the moon-phase dial on clocks?" by PROXY::SCHMIDT (Thinking globally, acting locally!) Fri Dec 07 1990 15:52

What's the "technical" name for the dial (present on some clocks)
that displays the current phase of the moon?

It's present on some watches too. In the comic strip "B.C.," they
wore sundials on their wrists. In real life, you can wear a moondial.

When we bought a long case clock with one, it was described by an
    horologist as a 'moon-dial'.

Moon-dial kinda sounds like Mundial (in spanish pronounced Moon Dee
Ahhl) which has more to do with the earth than the moon, "worldwide".

Oh, I wouldn't want to cause confusion then, so let's call it Earth-dial.

Well, whatever we call it, we'll have to phase it in over time.
