842.0. "Meta-notes (all replies in iambic pentameters, please)" by PASTIS::MONAHAN (humanity is a trojan horse) Wed Nov 28 1990 23:10

Recent notes in 1.* have suggested the idea that maybe we need a
    meta-notes conference.

In this, all notes would refer either to themselves, another note in
the conference, or to the purpose or conduct of the conference itself.

Would it be appropriate to conduct such a discussion with this as a
base note, and in this conference? If so, should I have written this
note in Limerick form, or would a Sonnet be more suitable to the
serious matter under discussion? Should we mandate the style of notes
at all, or just leave it up to the writer? Furthermore, do notes full
of questions confuse the reader and fill him with uncertainty about
the meaning of life? Can we create a closed system of 42
    self-referential notes?

We must take a strong stand on these issues, and this is the note
    in which to do it!

This note is sick. Had me going for a good hour looking for
any hint of a rhyme or whiff of metre before I realised I'd been
had. Sold a lemon. Purveyed a pig in a poke.

I agree with .0, and take issue with .1. Some sort of strict form
is required in order to force sublimity from noters' raw wit.
