Lederer Talk to Benefit Earth Day/90

Richard Lederer, the verbose humorist who takes an irreverent look
at our loopy English language, is lending his worldly knowledge to
promote Earth Day/90.

Lederer will speak on Monday, March 26 at 7:30PM at the Clarion
Somerset Hotel in Nashua. Tickets are $6, and can be purchased in
advance from myself, the City Clerks Office in Nashua City Hall.
All proceeds from Dr. Lederers talk will benefit Earth Day NH and
Nashua Earth Day/90.

Lederer is the author of several books, including CRAZY ENGLISH:
The Ultimate Joy Ride Through Our Language, and writes "Looking at
Language", a syndicated column. His talk pokes fun at the colorful
and often frustrating inconsistencies of English.

So the author ("myself") is more fully described as equivalent
to "the City Clerk[']s Office in Nashua City Hall."
That's fortunate. I'd hate to think that a human was responsible
for this kind of sloppiness in this kind of conference.

I happened to hear Christopher Lydon spend a delightful hour on
WGBH-Boston interviewing Richard Lederer. The highlight of the show
for me was a woman who called in with a snippet from one of her
students' essays on "The Diary of Anne Frank" -- something to the
effect that "The Frank family lived in a hidden apartment for many
months, and almost made it to the end of the war, but then they were
betrayed and the Gazpacho came and took them away."

I'll bet there exists spelling miscorrection software that would
help produce .2's quote even in the hands of a more talented student.
