The recent (11 July 1989) edition of Digital This Week contains an article entitled "Security videos distributed to DLNs." The article describes various videotapes that have been distributed "to each Digital Library Network." I remember when the local repository used to be called simply a "library." But apparently the love of acronyms and official names has taken over. If each unit is to be called a "network," what will they call the interlibrary services? "Gateways"? Lew Lasher

Actually, 18 libraries and two market research centers. There is talk of forming a European library network, in which case there will be two networks. There are also a few U.S. libraries not affiliated with the DLN, so I suppose we could say that there is currently one network and one non-network. No? |
