657.0. "A kindler, gentler America" by CLARID::HODSMAN (Network Maintenance Services VBO) Tue Apr 25 1989 15:27

Now that we all say it, and if you didn't before you certainly will
now, what are the procedures for making "kindler" official.

	?????

	Please excuse my ignorance, but...

Is this something that someone has said?

To me, it means `a more amiable fire-raising America'.

	Enlighten me.... please?

	Mat.

Perhaps it means that Ollie North will be allowed to drink hemlock
rather than being strung up from the nearest tree with piano wire? Or,
if really do mean "kindler", perhaps they plan to burn him?

Any of the above would be fine with me.

First it was "kinder". Not "kindler".

Statement from the George Bush presidential campaign in that he
wanted a "kinder and gentler" America.

The trouble is once youve said it a few times,
"kindler" kinda kreeps in instead of "kinder".
Give it a try. Youll wish you hadnt.

The English English word is 'kindlier' (I think).

Ask King Lear, and he'll tell you Bush wants an America somehow more
true to its historical 'nature'. More 'of its kind'.

But then, look what happened to Lear...
