638.0. "contradictory cliches" by VINO::MCGLINCHEY (Sancho! My Armor! My TECO Macros!) Thu Mar 16 1989 15:35

    	I've noticed several common aphorisms which contradict
    	each other:

    		Haste makes waste

    			* but *

    		He who hesitates is lost.

    	Care to add to my collection?

	So why not combine the two sayings so you cover all cases,
	like so:

	o He who hesitates makes waste
	o Many hands spoil the broth (Too many cooks make quick work)
	o A stitch in time repents at leisure

    I don't think the aphorisms are really contradictory. One could,
    for example, act immediately (not hesitate) and also move at a
    reasonable rate (not make haste).

    Here are two more not really contradictory aphorisms:

    	Absense makes the heart grow fonder.

    	Out of sight, out of mind.
