-<Just for fun>- _The New Yorker_ has a lot of "newsbreak" inserts -- little things to finish off a page, and usually things that would entertain JoyOfLexers. Among these is a section called "Block That Metaphor!" I don't want to restrict this to _The New Yoprker_, but any good metaphors worth blocking are welcome. Steve Kallis, Jr. ======================================================================== From a recent issue: [From the _Albany Times-Union_] But a fellow user pushing for stricter security counters: "Perhaps I am flogging a straw herring in midstream, but in light of what is known about the ubiquity of security vulnerabilities, it seems vastly too dangerous for university folk to run with their heads in the sand." #####

Thanks Steve, for opening up a note devoted to this topic. Notes 33.28, 33.30, and 33.31 contain some "Block that Metaphor" entries from that New Yorker that I have already entered. |
