539.0. "garbled news" by DOODAH::RANDALL (Bonnie Randall Schutzman) Fri Jul 15 1988 23:39

I present, for your amusement and use in producing more sick puns,
the following radio news "teaser" that tried to convince me I
wanted to listen to four ads while I waited for the upcoming news:

"Two undercover cops were fired on and an unidentified assailant
was wounded in the Dorchester section last night."

I couldn't find the Dorchester section in my _Gray's_Anatomy_
but it must be a painful place in which to be wounded!

My mother used to make similar jokes when she'd hear about someone
being "knifed in the melee" or "shot in the fracas".

Steve Allen used to use the gag constantly. Almost every night,
he would say, "And if you've ever been <verb>ed in the <noun>,
you know how painful that can be!"

A number of years ago, a newspaper reported the following:

"Last night, in a robbery attempt a woman bystander was shot. The
    bullet is in her yet."

Someone wrote the newspaper asking what part of her anatomy was
    the woman's yet.

The editor wrote back, saying it was like the woman's now, as in
    the song ...

Actually, I think the Now is a little lower and to the left of
        the Yet.

Would holding her yet be anything like holding her still? How long
could you hold her still? Or, if not hers, how about Jack Daniel's?
I do know that I can't hold Jack Daniel's yet.
