529.0. ""Puddin' Tame" or "Pudding and Tame" origin" by POOL::HALLYB (Emergency cancellation Archimedes) Wed Jun 08 1988 18:09

"Blue moon" was so successful I thought I'd ask about another term
that's bothered me for some time now. I'll leave it to Eric to
supply the music, but many years back there was a song where the
    singer gives his name as:

    "Puddin' Tane, Puddin' Tane,
Ask me again, I'll tell you the same."

or thereabouts. Maybe it was properly pronounced "Pudding and Tane",
which for all I know is the 1920s equivalent of Curds and Whey.

What's the origin of the term "Pudding and Tane" or "Puddin' Tane",
and how does that relate to somebody giving it as their name?

I learned it as a word game, never heard it as a song.

    1: What's your name?
    2: Puddin Tame

    1: Where do you live?
    2: Down the lane.

    1: What's your number?
    2: Cucumber.

    1: What do you do?
    2: Teach school.

    1: What do you teach?
    2: Silly things like you.

    Tamzen,

I learned that with out the last two pairs of questions and answers..

and after the cucumber I got tickled or I tickled my kids...

over the years this became a silly game...with my Dad, when I was
little answering 'horseradish' where cucumber went..and my
youngest daughter and I going on to mix up the answers and get
generally silly about the whole thing..

Yep, it was a general invitation to a tickle attack where I grew
up, too. Come to think of it I know some little kids who may not
know this yet. Time to pass on the knowledge.

re: .4

Does this imply that Cottleston Pie is one and the same as Pudding and Tame?
