422.0. "Looking for poets" by GLIVET::RECKARD (Jon Reckard 264-7710) Thu Oct 15 1987 09:16

Our daughter lost her first tooth yesterday. I thought I'd commemorate
the event with a song. Well, I sat down with my guitar and found a chord
and rhythm combination I liked - simple, child-like. My best attempt at
description is that it consists of two four-beat iambic phrases, thus:
dah DAH dah DAH dah DAH dah DAH
dah DAH dah DAH dah DAH (dah DAH)
with a difference in that the last foot? of the latter line is optional.
My first attempt at lyrics goes:

I'm six years old. I lost my tooth.
	I want it back. Forsooth.

I'd prefer words that ostensibly are intended for children, but a "forsooth"
(suggested by my better half) is welcome too, as are puns, etc. (The "New
Stupid Poetry" note, of a year or so ago, is not quite appropriate.)
    Suggestions are welcome.

Somewhere in the song, you could include a French version
    of your two first verses:

J'ai six ans, j'ai perdu ma dent
    	Rendez-la moi, vraiment !

    How about:

    I'm six years old, my tooth is gone;
It wriggled out, my palm it's on.
Tonight I'll put it well below
My pillow soft so it will go.
And when I wake, I'm sure you know,
The fairy'll change it into dough.

well...here goes nothing....actually a 6 year old probably wouldn't
look at it this way, but hey....

actually, I lost the second of my front teeth shortly after the
first, at the tender age of six. Of course, since it happened on
December 25th, I went around that day singing: All I Want For
Chrithmath ith my two front teeth".

    the Incisor Song

My tooth got loose and then fell out
They tell me, though, without a doubt
Another tooth will fill the gap
This is a common child's mishap

How come nature bothers us
With all this teeth and molar fuss?
With teething, braces, caps and fillings
(and all the attendant billings)
I s'pose that's why tooth fairies come
And leave us such a paltry sum
For as our youth draws to a close
They figure we'll pay through the nose...

So I s'pose I'm grateful I'm a kid
And it fell out just like it did
I make a quarter profit, true,
And that tooth gets a present too
It's happy now, it's cause replete
It's missed its final "trick or treat"

See there ! It's on my dental map !

Another thing that I find brill',
It's cheaper on the toothpaste bill !

So with the cash that I'd have spent,
I can buy some Steradent !!!

My tooth is gone and so I'll morn,
'Cuz I can't eat my cob of corn.
    The pain is purely mentally,
    As I can't function Dentally
