140.0. "Acronym Dictionary" by CODE68::THALLER () Wed Jan 22 1986 16:34

I have a list of engineering related acronyms and their definitions at

HYDRA::THALLER:DISK$THALLER[THALLER.UTIL]ACRONYMS.TXT

I also have a .COM file which is useful to look up an acronym

HYDRA::THALLER:DISK$THALLER[THALLER.UTIL]ACRONYMS.COM

Here are some examples in using the .com file.

@acronym CAM ;give all definitions for acronym CAM
@acronym CAM IBM	;give definition for CAM pertaining to IBM
@acronym * IBM ;give definition of all acronyms having IBM in its
	    		 definition

The list is certainly not complete, but it is pretty large (and growing).

Are the actual file specs:

HYDRA::DISK$THALLER:[THALLER.UTIL]ACRONYMS.TXT
    and
HYDRA::DISK$THALLER:[THALLER.UTIL]ACRONYMS.COM

?

P.S. Boy, it must be nice to have you own disk!

The correct file specs really is

HYDRA::DISK$THALLER:[THALLER.UTIL]ACRONYMS.*

our cluster has logical name assignments for all users so that
DISK$THALLER is actually translated to something like dua0$userpack09....

This convention makes it easy to remember, and will work for access
across the E-NET.

Very nice. May I suggest adding FRS (First Revenue Ship) to the list.

You may also be interested in an acronym list I've been keeping since '81.
It's currently over 6200 entries (412 blocks) and covers DEC, enginerring,
computer science, and other related topics. I submitted it to the DEC
Dictionary last year and they added a good deal of it to the new 2nd
edition. But, having it on-line makes it easier to use when you use the
search command.

It's available at:  CYCLPS::CYC1:[CBCD]ACRONYM.DAT

Have fun.
