I'm interested in opinions regarding the use of such stock phrases as:
...THE FOLLOWING... and
...AS FOLLOWS:
both used with a colon (:) at the end of the sentence.
I was taught that this was redundant because the colon itself stands for
"something will follow."
Digital religiously adheres to The Chicago Manual of Style (see Item 5.78)
but does that make it right?
Taking the TCMoS example in 5.78, I would rather see:

Why have non-working words when printing and typesetting costs are so
high? Think of all the waste we could save if we could eliminate this
practice from all Digital documents.
