If we stretch things a little, and allow "0" to mean "O", then the following words are also possible (again, an incomplete list): ABODE, ADOBE, COCOA, COFFEE (interesting pair!), DECODE, DOODAD, FEOFFEE (what does it mean ?), OBOE If anyone really wants a complete list, do this:: $ search sprite::user3:[osman.words]%z.txt - g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z /match=nor /Eric

Hey, this is fun... 0 could be used for O, 1 could be used for I, 2 could be used for Z, 5 could be used for S, 6 could be used for G, 7 could be used for T, 8 could be used for B. - (TIC)

Well, some of the longest words possible if 1 is I (gee maybe 1 should be l instead of I), are: ABIDED, ACACIA, ACEDIA, ACIDIC, BABIED, BECCAFICO (what's it mean?), BIOCIDE, BOCACCIO, BODICE, CABBIE, CADDICE, COCCOID, CICADA, DECIDED, DEICIDE, DIACIDIC, DIODE, EDIFICE, IODIDE, OFFICE Note that BECCAFICO would not usually appear on a VAX since it's more than 8 letters ! O.K. First person to spot a sentence in the pid column of SHOW SYSTEM wins a free access violation. /Eric

Making words in hex was used in the VENUS debug as a way to check the outcome of simulation runs - the tests were set up to put 900D900D (read "GOODGOOD") if the test passed. Anything else was failure. Several phrases were used as input vectors. I remember overhearing, "I don't know what happened. I put DEADBEEF in R3 and got F00DFACE out!"

The word C0EDBABE was seen recently on Usenet (in an example of a programming error that changed it into DEADBEEF). |
