Why have "freeze", "froze", and "frozen" become everybody's favorite words in the this company? I think the first time I head them utterred was when I learned a few years ago that no new features were being added to VMS version 3. And since then, there have been "freezes" aplenty. Have you had such conversations as the following? Q: Is product X shipping? A: No, it's on ship-freeze. Q: Why? A: I don't know. Q: How can I find out the reason? A: I don't know. I think the whole corporation has gone into management-competence-freeze. When's the thaw coming? Join the committee to ban the use of the word "freeze" and get into the flow of things. It's no longer chic to fix problems by "freezing" them. FIX not FREEZE. Pat Sweeney

You're right. But can you keep it from being called a freeze-freeze? Also, the farm boys in management may not do your project any good if they 'fix' it. We fixed our cat (who didn't even know he was broken), and he hasn't been the same since. Fix, like freeze, will be misapplied. Rob | |||||

When referring to cats, a friend of mine prefers the word
"mutilate." He claims that not only is "fix" misleading, but
inaccurate.

It is interesting that the VMS group no longer has 'code freeze'. They now call it 'code chill', because the code never absolutely stabilizes. --PSW | |||||

After 'code chill' there is 'code slush.' If the slush stays cold
long enough, it will freeze.
