1501.0. "American Jewish Assembly?" by SSAG::SNYDER (There are no shortcuts) Tue Jul 16 1996 20:33
Greetings.
In Monday's Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph, there was letter to the
editor attacking Rabbi Steven Foster of Denver because of statements
that he had made after the Supreme Court of the U.S. ruled that
Amendment 2 was unconstitutional (Romer v. Evans). The letter was
signed:
Dr. David W. Harris
Chairman
American Jewish Assembly
Washington, D.C.
We (a local group in Colorado Springs called Jewish Voices for Justice)
have been unable to find out anything about Dr. Harris or his
organization. They are not listed in Washington, D.C., nor are they
listed in the American Encyclopedia of Associations, or the Directory
of Religious Organizations of the U.S., or in From Radical Left to
Extreme Right, or in any other publication available through the
library. A search of the Web turns up nothing. Neither the Denver
office of the ADL, nor the ADL in New York City have every heard of
this organization.
Because of the nature of the rhetoric in the letter, and the fact that
David A. Harris is Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee,
we are highly suspicious.
Has anyone ever heard of or know anything about this man or
organization? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Sid
