1445.0. "Aliyah questions note" by BELLS::LEVY (The Bloodhound) Fri Jan 27 1995 02:51

    Hello,

As I eluded in another note, I'm leaving digital on
the 5th March and plan to make Aliyah soon after.

I plan to use this topic to ask any Aliyah questions.

    So, here's the first.

    1) Can someone in TAV land tell me/confirm which TV
standard is used in Israel? Is it PAL B/G?

    2) Is it possible to pick up TV stations from outside Israel,
and if so what broadcast standard are they transmitted on?
(I'm thinking of satellite, cable, and terrestial stations).
I'm asking this to understand if there is any advantage in
buying a multistandard TV for Israel.

    3) Is TV currently broardcast in sterio or is it planned.
Are any changes to broadcast format planned?

What is the cost and model number for a 25inch TV in Israel
currently on sale? (Sony, Panasonic, Philips, etc).

    Thanks,

    Malcolm

It is PAL and you can via cable be connected to some of the most
popular stations, including CNN, BBC News, Skynews and other European
    channels.

1445.3next year in Jerusalem?BELLS::LEVYThe BloodhoundThu Mar 02 1995 00:0513
    Hi,

Friday is approaching, so I'll soon lose access to Bagels.
I have a buyer for my house so things are progressing.

Regarding my previous question, anyone know if sterio TV
    is transmitted in Israel?

    Thanks and l'hit

1445.4Sterio - if not today, then tomorrow......TAVIS::BARUCHin the land of milk and honeyThu Mar 02 1995 09:3212
Malcolm, I am not aware of any specific broadcasts in sterio, although
one of my friends here says that there are programmes broadcast in
sterio. At any rate, it is probably just a matter of time before we
catch up. A Sony TV is just under double the price in Israel compared
to the correct export model purchased tax free in the UK. I purchased
a Sony for my Mother in Sony in Watford, near London last year and it
is working well in Ra'anana. Just make sure that the salesman knows
that you need an export model for Israel.

Good luck with the move and we will wish you welcome when you arrive.
    Shalom
    Baruch

    Hi Baruch,

Thanks for your answer. Hopefully it won't be long before
everything is tidied up at this end and we are on our way.

I know a couple of places that deal in export models, one
of them owned by a Greek Cypriot. He's right by Balfour
house in London, the building that was bombed earlier this year!
Anyway, apparently Cyprus and Israel are on the same
    wavelength! (so to speak).

Good luck to everyone, in whatever you want out of life,

    All the best,

    Malcolm
