1441.1 | hello, and on Aliyah soon!!!! | BELLS::LEVY | The Bloodhound | Thu Dec 22 1994 14:03 | 20 |
| Hi,
Well I'm a British Jew and have been reading this conference
since near the beginning (not Berashit).
Unfortunately you have stumbled over an issue, and that is that
I will soon be leaving Digital! This will leave a vacant spot
for someone like yourself to fill in monitoring this conference
and helping out when British issues do crop up.
My last day at Digital will be the 5th March 1994 and soon after
I hope to make Aliyah with my family.
If you have any issues that concern you as a British Jew feel free
to enter them and while I'm around I'll be happy to discuss.
By the way, where do you live? I'm in Reading.

1441.2 | Hello, not on Aliya soon ! | UBOHUB::YUGINSHAW_P | | Fri Jan 06 1995 12:24 | 12 |
| Well I live over in Petersfield, didn't you know about the large Jewish
community there? No, nor did I. I am a little envious of you making
aliya, I've spent quite a bit of time there, but its not really
comparable to REading [?]
We're looking to see what sort of community is in Guildford and would
like to get involved. As for issues of importance, theres nothing that
comes to mind at present [I've not seen todays JC!]but when I think of
something I'll let you know.
P.s what part of Israel are you going to ?

1441.3 | from Reading -> Israel via Bagels | BELLS::LEVY | The Bloodhound | Fri Jan 06 1995 16:49 | 28 |
| Hello Pete,
We'll probably start off in Natanya and then see according to what
work we can find.
If Reading is not too far for you to come, why not come here for
a shabbath to look around? Other places to look are Croydon and
Wimbledon. It depends what you are looking for, what your needs are,
and how far you wish to travel. If you do come up here then please
let me know in advance so we can meet up. But better be quick!
You're right that Israel is not really comparable to Reading.
It's hard to know where to start. The culture is quite different,
and while Reading has Canals, the river Thames, country pubs and
excellent shopping, Israel has its own attractions. We will be leaving a
small Jewish community that we have both contributed to, and in which
I truely became an adult, for Israel and a different life.
It is indirectly due to Bagels that I'm now going, as I would not have
known Ronit but for this file.
So, tell me if you'd like to come up to Reading, I always have an open
home.

1441.4 | B'ahava b'Yisrael ?! | BASCAS::YUGINSHAW_P | | Tue Jan 10 1995 14:58 | 20 |
| Hi Malcolm,
Firstly thank you very much for your invite ! I'll speak to my wife and
work out whats happening when and get back to you. As for aliya, Natanya
sounds like quite a nice place to start off in although I havn't spent much time there
myself. I spent a year in Israel, mainly on kibbutz, although I also
did some community work in Dimona [Nr Beersheva]. It was quite hot
there, although the kibbutz I stayed on was even more southerly, just
north of Elat. Hopefully we,ll get back there soon, maybe even this
summer.
I understand DEC has offices in Israel, I don't think I'd object to a
transfer !
Will you be glad to leave digital ? It seems lots of,people are at the
moment ! Anyway, I'd better go and do some real work now!!
"Speak" to you soon
Pete
