Hi, I'm hoping someone who is familiar with the Temple practices of old can shed some light on this for me. In I. Chronicles 24 we are told about the divisions of the priests: 24 in all. It is clear that these divisions rotated their duties in the Temple. But what is not clear is what that period of rotation was, or how long they served for each period. For instance, did one division serve for two weeks at a time, thus 24 covering a year (but what about years with 13 months??), or did they serve one week, or one day, or what? And what about after the Babylonian exile? I believe that only four divisions returned, but was repopulated to at least 22. Is this correct? In any case, I would like to better understand the rotational practices: Which division was on duty when, for how long, etc. I'm particularly interested in this during the period of the second temple. Many thanks! Greg...
