1346.0. "PLEASE HELP" by BERIS3::DGOTTHEINER () Mon Jul 12 1993 17:09

Shalom to all,

first, sorry for maybe taken the wrong note but I even
don't have any time to read all in this conference.
Maybe somenone will write me how to find the index.

Also sorry about my written english, it's got worse the last year's.

I need your help.

little story,

I'am a jewish women born and live in Germany.(Berlin)
I'am searching for the sister of my father in
Oakland/California Helga Lwenstein and my uncle
Julius Lwenstein, both born in Germany and left
this country 1938 on different way's and met
in USA.
My father and nearly the rest of the family (grandma,
cousins, uncles etc) stayed in Germany.
He was the only one who survived the Holocaust.

My father died seven year's ago until this time
I got no contact to my aunt, also I saw her just
two times in my life when I was a little girl.

Julius and Helga must near 80 years old and I hope
there still living. The old address I had isn't actual.
Maybe there are in a jewish home of old people.
I have no idear how to get from germany any information.

Helga was activ in some jewish organization like
WIZO, Keren Kayemed etc.
There have no child's, that I know.

My questions to you: Is there anybody who have
family or friends in California, maybe there know them ???

Thank's a lot in advance

L'hitraot

Hallo Daniela,

If the people in here are unable to help, you may want to take a look in
DSSDEV::GENEALOGY where there are a variety of hints on finding living people
(in addition to the usual things about finding dead ones 8^{).

Do they have any children? One of my friends says there's a Jeff
& Rose Lowenstein in Oakland, and Mark & Andrea in Albany. There's
no listing in that area for Helga or Julius (they might have an
    unlisted number).

I'am sure that they have no children.
I'think there are only two possibilities
-both in a jewish home of old people , around Oakland
or both are dead (I really hope they not)

I'am sure both are members in the jewish community Oakland
My hope, that anyone of you know jewish people in Oakland or
live in Oakland and be also member of the jewish community Oakland.

Thank's
Daniela

Gav,

thank's. I just had a look in genealogy, everything I saw
that people searching for his families trees.
Also it's very difficult and take a lot of time to read
everything, because of my worse english.

Es whre sehr nett, wenn Du mir einige Tip's in Deutsch
vermitteln knntest, vorrausgesetzt Du mchtest oder
hast die Zeit dazu. Daniela Gottheiner@beo

Daniela,

Yesterday, I sent you 2 VMSmail messages with some explanation. The second
mail contains output from the Jewish Family Finder which shows 13 matches on
the surname LOWENSTEIN, some originating in Germany.

As well, I included the names and addressess of the individuals who are also
researching the LOWENSTEIN family name. Some of these addresses are on the
U.S. west coast. As I suggested, you could write or telephone these people
for some leads.

One of these LOWENSTEIN genealogists lives in the Toronto area. If you like,
I can call for you and try to find out if there is any link to your
Lowenstein's in California.

Regards,
Allen

Daniela,

Benutzst Du DECwindows oder character-cell (VT100, usw.) Notes? In DECwindows
Notes sollst Du Conference->Keywords drucken und von dieser liste das Keyword
"MISSING PERSONS" whlen. Mit character-cell mut Du 'SHOW KEYWORD "MISSING -
PERSONS"/FULL' tippen. Es gibt 33 Noten unter diesem Keyword und in diesem
gibt es vielen hints.

Es gibt auch ein Keyword "JEWISH". Meisten von diesen Noten sind fr tote
Leute nicht lebende.

In GENEALOGY gibts auch einige deutsche Ahnenforscher. Vielleicht knnen
sie, besonders Stefan Hofmann, mit der Suche und der bersetzung auch helfen.

Tsch & l'hit,
Gav

Translation for the German impaired 8^{) :

Daniela,

Are you using DECwindows or character-cell (VT100, etc.) Notes? With
DECwindows you select Conference->Keywords and the Keyword "MISSING PERSONS"
With character-cell notes you must type 'SHOW KEYWORD "MISSING PERSONS"/FULL'.
There are 33 notes under this keyword and there are many hints in them.

There is also a Keyword "JEWISH". Most of these notes are for dead people
not living ones.

There are also a few german researchers in GENEALOGY. Perhaps one of them,
especially Stefan Hofmann, can also help with the search or translations.

Bye and see you later,

You can try the Geneology conference(s), etc. However I will speak to
my mother-in-law, who is still the "hub" (center) of the German-Jewish
community in Washington Heights in New York.
