1325.0. "Looking to Play Jewish Music" by CTHQ::ROSENBERG (D. Rosenberg TAY2-1/H15 227-3961) Mon Apr 12 1993 16:46

    Hi,

I would like to try and get together with people in the greater
Boston/Maynard area and play Jewish music (Yiddish folk songs,
some Klezmer, Israeli folk songs), either on a regular or
irregular basis. There was a note in 1989 (note 805) on this topic
    but nothing recent.

Are there still people out there who are interested? Is there anybody
who is already doing something like that and would like another player?

    I play (and own):

    Clarinet
    Tenor Sax
    Electric Bass
Oboe (Is there such a thing as a Klezmer oboe :-)
    Acoustic Guitar

    I live in Wayland.

I'll confess to playing trombone for our Purim shpiel in Sudbury this year.
As I see it, the problem would be coming up with sheet music. I'm not really
good enough to play inner harmonies in a minor key by ear. Those Klezmer
musicians are awesome.

There is now!

I thought some of you might like to know the outcome of this topic.
Five of us Deccies (well, 4 and one ex who authored note 805) got
together and formed a band and we're still at it 2 years later.
Two more of us are no longer with Digital (victims of downsizing),
including the author of the base note for this topic who recently
dropped out of the band. However, with one replacement and one addition,
we now have 6 members. We named the band "Shir Chutzpah". We played for
the Simchat Torah celebration at 2 local temples this year. We even have
a web page (http://www.ultranet.com/~rich/shir).
