1312.0. "Band Wanted for Bat Mitzvah" by CTHQ::ROSENBERG (D. Rosenberg TAY2-1/H15 227-3961) Mon Mar 01 1993 15:42

    I am looking for a band for the party after my daughter's Bat Mitzvah
    (Sep 4th). I am looking for a band that can play the following:

    Some Yiddish music (probably in the area of Yiddish folk music like
    "Tum Balalaika" or Yiddish Schmaltzy music, like "Ich hob dich tsu fil
    lib". Some Klezmer would be fine too). Both quiet for background nusic
    during eating and lively for dancing after.

    Some Israeli music (Israeli music as I define it, which is probably
    Israeli music from 30-40 years ago, like the way Theodore Bikel did it.
    Things like "Hanavah Babanot", "Artsa Alenu"). Ditto with the both
    quiet and lively.

    Modern American Soft Rock/Oldies - things my daughter and her friends
    can dance to.

    Any suggestions (in the greater Boston area) for bands that would fit?

    Thanks,

    Dick

    I think we've found what we're looking for. My thanks to everybody who
    replied off-line with their suggestions (and good wishes).

1312.2May have changed mind...still lookingCTHQ::ROSENBERGD. Rosenberg TAY2-1/H15 227-3961Mon May 17 1993 15:1811
    Now we're not sure if what we thought we want is really what we want.
    So I'm back soliciting recommendations, except I want to change the
    criteria. We are looking for a band that will be able to make it
    enjoyable for my daughter, i.e., play a lot of familiar rock/dance
    tunes and play some games with the kids AND make it enjoyable for us by
    doing the above plus playing SOME Jewish/Israeli music (Note the shift
    in emphasis toward the general music/emceemanship).

    Thanks,

1312.3teach the guests Israeli dancing? SQGUK::LEVYThe BloodhoundMon May 17 1993 17:2210
    Hi,

    I find it sad the implication that you daughter may not enjoy
    Israeli/Hebrew music.

    Is there a possibility that she could go somewhere where she
    could participate in activities involving these? Such as Israeli
    dance classes? They can be great fun!

1312.4Reiterating requestCTHQ::ROSENBERGD. Rosenberg TAY2-1/H15 227-3961Mon May 17 1993 18:0512
    Sorry you read me wrong. We all love Israeli/Hebrew music. It's simply
    that, after having been to a couple of Bat Mitzvahs since I posted the
    first notes, I realized that what we want is a band that will play a
    lot of other styles of music as well.

    Check out note 1325.

    Does anybody have any POSITIVE responses to my latest reply?

    Thanks,

    Dick

It's probably too late to book them, but "Excursion" has a good reputation
for Bat/Bar Mitzvahs, can play a variety of music (incl. Israeli), provide
all-around entertainment, etc.  Top-notch band.
