1272.0. "Back to the Beginning" by DECSIM::HAMAN::GROSS (The bug stops here) Mon Oct 26 1992 22:49

I noticed that towards the end of Bereshit, G-d declares that people would
henceforth live no more than 120 years. Yet aren't there a few who exceeded
this number, even after the flood?

There seems to be a relationship between Abel's offering of a sheep (?) and
Cain's offering of grain versus the relative importance of animal sacrifice
vs grain offerings later on in Leviticus. Is the text here telling us why
the meal offerings seem to be subordinate to the blood offerings?

When I read this last Shabbath I remember thinking it strange
how Cain, the farmer, was the one to kill Able, the one who
looked after the animals. Quite the opposite of Esau and Jacob.

The commentry in the Hertz chumash stated that Cain's offering was
not acceptable because it was not given with a good heart.

Abel brought his best, Cain brought so-so stuff.
