WHO WE ARE: DEMOGRAPHICS IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY
DATE: August 25, 1992 TIME: 12:30 - 2:30 (bring your lunch)
LOCATION: Harbor Conference Room, LKG2-1 (on right after tunnel)
DR. Sherry Israel, Social Psychologist and Associate Professor at Brandeis
University in the Hornstein Program in Jewish Communal Service will
present an workshop on "Who We Are: Demographics in the Jewish
Community." Format is a brief formal presentation after which participants
will break out into small groups for discussion.
Dr. Israel received her MA and PhD from the University of California at Los
Angeles. She is the author of "Boston's Jewish Community: the 1985 Combined
Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) Demographic Study".
Dr. Israel will present the findings of the New National Demographic
Study which was completed in 1991. She will compare and contrast the two
studies and address how the changing structure of the Jewish community is
affecting the individual and the community. Among the topics she will address
are:
How does the Jewish community work today?
How has intermarriage affected the Jewish community?
What does it mean to be a Jew today?
Where do we fit into the picture?
Do we match the profile?
What are the implications of the above?
