Early this morning Rav Simcha Bunim Alter, the ADMOR of GUR
(Gerre Rebbe), passed away at age 96.
He had been quite sick for the past several years.
As of this writing it was not clear whether the successor would
be his brother, Rav Pinhas Menachem Alter who is also the Rosh
Hayeshiva of the Gur yeshiva or his son, Rav Yaakov Alter.
The Gur dynasty is today one of the largest Hassidic dynasties.
Prior to WWII it was undoubtedly the largest Hassidic dynasty,
and it was almost totally wiped out by the Nazis, Yimach Shemam.
May he be a "Melitz Yosher" for Klal Yisdroel...
