1197.0. "Young, single Jew lost in Colorado Springs" by CXCAD::BERZON () Tue Mar 31 1992 07:12

    Hi,
My name is Jake. I came to DEC - Colorado Springs just over
two months ago. I have not been able to find anybody Jewish in town
other than at the Reform synagogue, or at the Lubavitcher minyans. I
would be interested in finding out about local Traditional Jewish
activities in the city (not in Denver), and meeting other conservodox
employees at DEC - Colorado Springs (if there are any.)
I have noticed that the singles conference has been dead for at
least 2 years now, so I didn't think it would make much sense to post
    this note there.
         My vital statistics are:
5' 9", 150lb, 26 years old, hardware engineer. Good and young looking (by
most accounts.) I came from Ukraine (formerely, part of the greater
Soviet Empire) in 1979, lived in Denver / Boulder area until 1987, moved
to Minneapolis, and now I am back to this general area. I don't keep
strictly kosher, am not Shomer Shabas, and can barely read Hebrew (but
please don't hold these against me.)
I still know a few people in Denver, and am trying to organize a
young singles organization for Jews that have recent Russian heritage. So
far I have around 40 names of people from Denver (mostly guys) from 16
to 30 years old who are interested in this endeavor. However most of
these people have only come here in the past two years, and I will need
a lot of other persons who have been here longer (even maybe a
generation, or two, or three, ...) to establish a viable support
structure for this organization. I would also love to have some people
    from Colorado Springs participate.
If you think you now a girl, who may be interested in me personally,
or a person interested in the group I am organizing, please encourage them
    to reply to this massage.
A more detailed explanation of this organization's charter is
available in both English and Russian, so please let me know if
    anybody wants more information.

    Regards, Jake

    Jake,

RMUNCH (Rocky Mountain United Chavurot) may be what you're looking for.
We currently have 85 member families whose interests are very diverse.
We have no affiliation with any particular movement and our activities
range from traditional holiday and Shabbat services to purely
ethnic/social get togethers. We have singles, couples, large families,
seniors, etc. We have no building and very modest "dues" ($18
suggested annual donation; we are incorporated in the State of Colorado
    as a tax-exempt organization).

As a co-founder, board member, and member of too many RMUNCH
committees, I can give you much more information on what we are and
have as well as what else is (and is not) available here in the
Springs. Since you're on CXCAD, I assume you work in CXO1. I'm
upstairs in Core 6. You are welcome to call me at x2837, send me mail,
or drop by my office (Pole N25).

There is a conservative congregation over on Monument St. About a block
from the Olympic Training center. The folks there are quite freindly,
but the congregation is a bit on the elderly side, must people there
being in the 45-75 year old range.

When I was in the Springs I come to the synagogue on Shabbat and was
very well received, I even got an Aliya. BTW they read Torah on the 3
year cycle. That was the first time I was at a congregation that used
the Trianial cycle; most synagogues go with the 1-year cycle.

The name of the congregation .2 is referring to the Temple Shalom.

It actually located on Dale just East of Logan and is adjacent to the
    Olympic Training Center.

David Kline, their previous rabbi, was a friend of mine.

    Shalom,
    Richard
