    Dear People,

I looked through the existing notes, and hadn't seen anything referring
to this, if I overlooked a note entry, I apologize in advance.

What I am looking for is information, myths, stories, asst. data on
    "the lost tribe(s) of Israel"..

If anyone can help me, or show me a pointer, I would be most grateful!

    		Thank you in advance!

There's a compelling little book called _The Lost Tribes of Assyria_.
with a forward by former Israeli president Chaim Herzog, about
the Jews of Afghanistan. There's also a section in Nathan
Ausubel's _Pictorial History of the Jewish People_ about
the lost tribes. See also Sidney Shapiro's _Jews in Old
China_. Also, see the Encyclopedia Judaica on individual
    countries.

Hope this helps. BTW, is this for a paper of some sort?

Oops, make that Yitzhak Ben-Zvi. How does one get to be
a former president without going the way of Ben-Zvi
    anyway?

You'll have to ask Yitzhak Navon or Ephraim Katzir, both former prezes.
(I'm pretty sure Katzir is still with us, though I haven't heard much from
him lately. Navon is still a Member of Knesset, and was Minister of Education
after being president).

I think it's a five year term and you can get re-elected (by secret ballot
in the Knesset).

Sid

P.S. It's only a little off the subject, but can you anser the question
in the title?

    Hi there..

Actually, I a going on a "personal" journey to find answers.. I was in
St. George Utah hiking and asst. goodness, and took a Native American
    course.

I guess I am looking to find the path to regain "spirituality".
While working with Gwen, I had a longing to be a part of the N.A.
heritage. Upon talking more, she mentioned that my Hebrew name is very
powerful, and that many of the "people" think they descend from the
lost tribes of Israel, and that the Star of David is a symbol they used
    in sacred ceremonies etc. etc.

As a note of interest, my personal e-mail name is an N.A. greeting, and
people (who I don't even know, but are on the dist lists etc) have
asked me if it is Hebrew.

One thing Gwen suggested, is that I try to return to my heritage to
find what I am looking for..and to have an open heart and mind, and to
act and *see* things and seek out and find my own "path".

That is the core for my looking for pointers. My time with Gwen has
rekindled my interest in the Jewish Religion and way of life..
