| .0> On a semi-related issue: should children stay out of school for Purim?
What do you mean by "should"? I don't think that there would be any reason
based on halacha. On the other hand, I'm sure that your kids could come up
with any number of reasons why they should be allowed to skip school that day!

| My wife, who works for Federation, and gets EVERY conceivable holiday
off - does NOT get Purim off!
The NY camera stores, operated by the Hassidim do NOT close for Purim -
they do close early enough to get home by sundown for erev Purim.

| The school _day_ question was incidental. But, thanks for the answer.
The "parent's night" event is in the evening and conflicts with the
Megillah reading. I think the state "official" Jewish holiday list
needs a bit of expansion.

1188.4 | New York camera stores - closed on Purim | CADSYS::HECTOR::RICHARDSON | | Tue Mar 24 1992 21:13 | 11 |
| Hmm, I am reasonably sure that when I called up B&H a few weeks ago to
order a bunch of film they told me they would be closed the day of
Purim (I don't know if they closed early the previous evening). I told
them I would be on vacation at the time - we had a riotous time reading
the Megillah on the boat, and the cook (not Jewish) even made decent
hamentashen from our descriptions of the desired pastries (substituting
raisins for prunes even though the latter were available too, in
deference to the boat's plumbing systems...). Don't know about the
other camera stores.
