1143.0. "Anti-Defamation League" by QUOKKA::SNYDER (Wherever you go, there you are) Wed Dec 18 1991 17:45

    Greetings.

I am looking for opinions on the ADL. Because of a recent incident at
an elementary school in Colorado Springs (involving our daughter,
Shayna), we are considering contacting the ADL for support.

I won't go into details of the incident now, but a member of our
Chavurah, after hearing the details, suggested getting the ADL
involved. He sent us some ADL literature (a solicitation, actually,
that spoke directly to the growing problem of anti-Semitism in the
public schools) that I found disturbing on many fronts. Unfortunately,
one of things I found disturbing, and this is difficult to describe,
was the level of emotionalism in the presentation.

I am currently working on the problem at the school carefully and
discreetly. While I am sure there are those in here who would
disagree, I am not prepared to allow my 8-year-old daughter to suffer
the consequences of a rabid fight among adults.

So, my question is this: do any of you have any experience with the
ADL, particularly in the way they handle such problems?

    Sid

Sid, so sorry to hear of your incident. Like AIDS, Jew-hating
is a plague worldwide. I would strongly encourage you to contact
the ADL, they're dependent on us to report these horrors, they
act on them right away, and they keep records. Please G-d it
    	won't happen again.
	Bernice

I haven't had any personal experience with the ADL, but I don't think you
should judge their work by their fundraising style. If their fundraising
is emotional, it's because they (or more probably, their fundraisers) have
found emotion to be effective in raising funds.
