1132.0. "Film review of Uncle Moses" by SUBWAY::HOFF () Tue Nov 26 1991 23:19
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just saw the Yiddish film "Uncle Moses" playing at the Film Forum
till Dec. 2nd in NYC. It was an excellent film. It received rave
reviews in both the Times and Voice, and has English subtitles.
At first I thought that it would be somewhat corny, but it wasn't.
It concerns the story of a man who is very successful in the
rag trade and brings over most of his landsmen. He buys off
the parents of a younger woman for marriage,only to find she
will never love him, has a strike at his shop led by her
socialist ex-boyfriend etc.. It does seem to realistically
portray the values and times of the 30's,
showing the aspirations and fears of our immigrant ancestors.
Regards,
Phil
