    Apparently President Bush will do without
    trade sanctions against Israel, in connection
    with an Israeli sale of military rockets to RSA....

	For those of us who may not follow the news as closely as we should, is there some new story out about "an Israeli sale of military rockets to RSA", or just a revival of old ones? If there are some new facts/rumors/innuendoes appearing in the press, could someone please post the details here?

	I heard on the news that Israel has been accused of violating UN sanctions by selling "missile parts" to South Africa. I'm still waiting to hear the nature of those parts; my first thought was that it was probably nuts and bolts that would just happen to fit a missile. Dave

	With the current "demon-izing" of Israel in the press, I wouldn't at all be surprised to read in the papers that Israel might have supplied tactical citrus fruit to the Lost Kingdom of Atlantis :-) :-) .... Monty

	Re: .0 Isn't that embargo of Israel on the same omnibus bill as; -embargoing Japan and Norway for sales of critical submarine prop technology to Russia... -embargoing Germany for sales of chemwep technology to Libya and Iraq... -embargoing China for missle sales to Iraq and North Korea... -and embargoing the USA for weapon sales to Iran, Iraq, and most everybody else with cash... Maybe not. After all, Israel is a good target right now. Bush and co want to cozy up to the OPEC folks rather than develop a sane energy policy, cause that would hurt Detroit and the construction industry. You can read that as votes if you like. Don

	My request in .2 was a serious one. I would very much like to see someone (possibly the author of the topic note?) post some additional information. What is Israel being charged with, by whom, and what evidence (if any) is there? These stories tend to be "leaked" from Washington at times when the American Administration is putting pressure on the Israeli government, and my suspicion is that this is just some propoganda from Bush's people. Is there anything more to it than that?

	Given the lack of response to .2 and .7 from the author of the base topic, I assume that this is just another unsubstantiated smear. Senator Joseph McCarthy used similar tactics back in the '50s. He would make some groundless charge of Communist influence in high places in the US government, which of course got him a lot of attention in the press. Before anyone had a chance to pin him down on specifics, he would have made another charge, in the excitement of which the original one was forgotten.
