Hello,
My name is Jeff Phelps. I moved to the Colorado Springs area 2 weeks
ago to start my carrer at Digital. Being new to the area, I have no
idea where (or if) there are any temples or synagoges in the area. What
I am looking for is an informal service (in english) to help me get
back into the 'swing' of things. (it has been over 15 years since my
Bar-mitzva, and my last teachings). I was very active as a teenager in
B'nai Brith A.Z.A.. Now my son (8 years old) is starting to ask
questions, and wondering about his heritage, and I know very little.
We (my wife, my son , my daughter and myself) are very intersted in
finding a comfortable environment for us to learn and become a part of.
If you have any information that would benefit us, it would be greatly
appreciated...

I occasionally visit the Springs on business. Although I've never attended
services there, I do know that there is one synagogue in town. I looked it
up in the phone book on one visit, out of curiosity. You should probably
check it out.

Though I don't live near Colorado Springs, I know there is a Synogogue
at the Air Force Academy. You might check with the Jewish Chaplain of
the Academy for other Congregations. In addition you could check with
Hillel in the phone book or the local Chamber of Commerce. Finally,
look up Synogogues in the Yellow Pages.
This is a great time and a great opportunity to show our heritage to
your children and provide them with the background to make informed
religious decisions later on in their lives.

If you check out Temple Shalom (1523 E. Monument, behind the Olympic
Training Center, 634-5311) and find it not to your liking or if you are
interested in supplementing what you get from the temple, you might
want to join RMUNCH (Rocky Mountain United Chavurot). We do lots of
different things in many different ways.
