-< London--early June! >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any up-to-the-minute recommendations for a hotel and kosher
restaurant for Shabbat, presumably in Golders Green (although
I could consider other parts of London also, if someone can
make a recommendation)? I will be there at the beginning of
June and I would like to be somewhere where there is something
to see and someplace to go during the long Shabbat afternoon.

I spent several weeks in London, mostly near Univ. of London,
but that was many many years ago -- in 1973 ! So I feel that
I really do not know where I should be looking to stay.

    Zaitch,

The "bible" to read for these questions is .....
    		"The Jewish Travellers Guide"
... Never leave home without it :-) :-)

Unfortunately, my copy is a few thousand miles away :-(

If you don't want to stay in London for Shabbat, you can try going to
Bournemouth and staying at one of the Kosher Hotels there. It's a sort
    of genteel English Catskills.

I'll be in ZKO next week for some meetings, so I'll give you a call
about some of the Kosher Hotels in the London area.

    Regards,

    Monty,

When are you going to be in ZKO, and where are you staying? Maybe this
would be an occasion for a BAGELers get-together?

Thanks, Monty, for .1 and for your phone call from ZKO.

Since then I have been invited to spend the shabbat with
the aunt and uncle of a friend of a friend -- in Edgeware
(spelling?). I may just do that to have some heimish
company... hotels on shabbat are really a drag, even
when they are kosher...

Any suggestions as to what is sight worthy in Edgeware ?
Is it within walking distance of anything worth seeing?

1066.4Very little to see .. its the subarbsVAXUUM::SAGALI'd rather be TAVENG::MONTYThu May 09 1991 01:3715
    Spelled *Edgware*

Sight(s) to see over Shabbat in Edgware:

Well ... the Edgware Synagogue (Orthodox) used to be the shul with the
    largest seating capacity in England.

If that is not interesting enough you can walk down to the main road,
called the Great North Way, and watch the cars. Actually that road is
built on the original Roman Road. <end of very trivial pursuits>

I'l be in London this weekend, so I'll ask the experts.

Monty, careful what you say about Edgware! I have mishpucha there. In fact my
brother lives there, and he is a member of the same Edgware shul you just
mentioned. I had the pleasure to be called up there when I stayed with my
brother last November.

Watch your step when crossing the main road though. The modern chariots move
rather faster than the ones on the original Roman road! And it is no good
shouting "Shabbos" at them either!

    Monty,

What sort of job do you have that enables you to travel back and forth
across The Pond? As an Ex-Brit living in the US, I'd love to know how
to get the Company to pay my way for me from time to time!!!
