1035.0. "AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION...." by SALEM::KARLSBERG () Fri Jan 25 1991 16:56

After reading note 1026 "Terrorism at home", I've noticed that some of us
have entered incidents which have taken place since the beginning of the war,
others have mentioned precautionary measures we're taking, and still other's
have mentioned measures taken as a result of an incident. I'd like to use
this note as means of sharing security measures we are taking for our people
and our religious institutions. On the other hand, I'm also a bit concerned
(paranoid) about the information we communicate in this note. Any thoughts...

I agree that some means of communicating what's being done to safeguard one's
community institutions to members of other jewish communities is a good idea.
Shared experience and ideas can only benefit the good guys. I also think that
notes is a bad place to have this discussion. Like it or not this is a big
company and we (just you and me, you understand) don't know who might read what
gets said here. I'll admit that this is paranoid; but as El-Al security have
demonstrated several times, just 'cause your paranoid, it doesn't me their not
out to get you.

Before someone else tells me, I realise that going over the top with security
measures is in effect making the terrorist the winner by allowing him/her to
alter the fundamental aspects of your life. The trick is to balance the effort
you put into self protetion against the worth of the life you are trying to
maintain. Am I making myself reasonably clear. I'm sure I understood this before
I started typing!

Anyway, take care all of you. Its a rough tough world out there.
